Me and My Hormones: What Can Go Wrong?

This book offers a jargon-free, comprehensive account of the underlying causes of hormone conditions that can affect all ages from birth to adulthood. Hormones play a crucial role in our health, well-being, growth, puberty and sexual development. With special chapters dedicated to various common hormonal issues such as puberty timing, short stature, adrenal fatigue, thyroid disorders, pituitary disorders, diabetes, weight issues and many more, this book will bring clarity and help the reader understand how hormones can affect aspects of one’s health and body. It will also appeal to readers who simply want to understand about hormones and what can go wrong in the body.


Dr May Ng, MBBS (Hons), FRCPCH, FHEA, MSc, LLM, MBA, PhD, is an Honorary Associate Professor at the University of Liverpool and holds a dual accreditation for specialist qualifications in General Paediatrics and Paediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes. She qualified in Medicine at the University of Sydney, Australia, before training in Paediatrics in Australia and the United Kingdom. She completed a Master’s degree in Medical Science in 2005, and was awarded a UK Medical Research Council Fellowship in 2006, subsequently completing her PhD thesis on paediatric endocrinology and diabetes. She also holds an LLM and an MBA in Healthcare Finance, and is the author of over 250 scientific papers. She is actively involved in the development of national paediatric training and policies in endocrine and diabetes, and has won several national awards, including: the University of Liverpool Alumni Award 2019, the Diabetes UK Mary Mackinnon Award 2018, and the UK Diabetes Quality in Care Award in 2015, among others. She serves as Chair of the UK Association of Children’s Diabetes Clinicians and the National Institute Health Research Clinical Research Network for Diabetes in Children, UK. She is also the author of A Journey with Brendan, detailing a 10-year account of her journey as an autism mum.
