Kendra N Sheehan is a senior lecturer and advisor for the University of Louisville’s Classical and Modern Languages Department’s Japanese Minor program (USA). She earned her PhD in humanities, concentrating on the intersections of Japanese popular culture, fandom, and religion, from the University of Louisville (USA). She also serves as a copyeditor for American Review of China Studies. Her publications include “Modernizing and Marketing Monsters in Japan: Shapeshifting Yōkai and the Reflection of Culture” in Exploring the Macabre, Malevolent, and Mysterious: Multidisciplinary Perspectives, “Soft Power, Globalisation, and the Otaku: Influencing Japanese Nationalism from Within and Abroad” in National Identity and Millennials in Northeast Asia: Power and Contestations in the Digital Age, and “The Japanese Spirit and Aesthetic in Western Animation: The Influence of Anime on Adventure Time” in Analyzing Adventure Time: Critical Essays on Cartoon Network’s World of Ooo. Her research interests are broad, but she is especially interested in Japanese popular culture, religion, gender, literature, culture and film; the humanities; and translation.
