The Recognition Principle: A Philosophical Perspective between Psychology, Sociology and Politics
This book responds to the need for a clearer understanding of issues related to the theme of recognition in various disciplinary fields in which it plays an important role, such as psychology, sociology and politics. The book also considers in particular detail the usefulness of a theoretical-speculative definition of the question of recognition. It also shows that no philosophy of recognition can be solidly built, or claim epistemic strength and practical-operational forcefulness, without a certain degree of psychological and anthropological excavation, without a specific ‘discourse on man’. Through an engagement with such a discourse, this book is able to explore the concept of recognition as a general principle, namely the ‘recognition principle’.
Vinicio Busacchi is Associate Professor of Theoretical Philosophy and a Member of the Doctoral Committee at the Department of Pedagogy, Psychology, and Philosophy at the University of Cagliari, Italy. He is also correspondent for Italy in the Fonds Ricœur of Paris, a Member of the Association Paul Ricœur, and a Member of the interdisciplinary research group on “Psychoanalysis, Hermeneutics and Phenomenology” in Rome. His research interests are focused in epistemology and hermeneutics. He has published various articles on the philosophy of psychoanalysis, neuroscience, anthropology, and the philosophy of history. His published books include Ricœur vs. Freud (Paris, 2011), Pour une herméneutique critique (Paris, 2013), and La capacità di ognuno (Rome, 2014).
