Intentional Parenting: A Practical Guide to Awareness Integration Theory
In this diverse world, parents and educators around the globe today face new challenges connecting with raising children. The Nigerian Igbo belief ‘It takes a village to raise a child’ can re-emerge as ‘It takes a multi-cultural perspective in the village that raises a child prepared for the culturally integrated world’. This book offers a multi-cultural, multi-disciplinary, and fresh, global perspective on parenting today by delving deep into the cultural, ethnic, and traditional characteristics of parenting, as well as the latest evidence-based scientific research on parenting a healthy child in every developmental stage for this era. Fascinating topics discussed here include connecting to an infant, potty training toddlers, teaching emotional regulation to preschoolers, task management of school-age children, dramatic transitions of tweens, and communicating effectively with an adolescent.

“It’s so refreshing to find a parenting textbook that recognizes that parents and children all have different perspectives, experiences, and desires. In today’s multicultural societies, it is imperative that we all learn and adapt parenting styles from one another. I especially adore that this book comes from a more child-centric philosophy than many other parenting texts. Based on the awareness integration approach, the techniques and suggestions for providing care for children of different ages are all designed to make both parent and child more aware of their thoughts and emotions. This ensures children will learn and create with care and intention, rather than simply reacting to the world around them. Our planet desperately needs more human beings who come from such a place.”

“This book is a compelling work that acknowledges that cultural beliefs and education go hand-in-hand. This resource for parents on developmental theories and educational approaches is phenomenal and profound. There is no cookie-cutter model for parenting, and the authors show this in this practical guide.”
