Dr Basanta K. Pradhan is a Professor at the Institute of Economic Growth, Delhi, India. He has headed the Development Planning Centre at the Institute since 2008. Previously, he has held teaching and research positions at the State University of New York at Stony Brook, USA; the University of Warwick, UK; the Indian Statistical Institute, Delhi; and the National Council of Applied Economic Research, Delhi. He was also a Distinguished Visiting Fellow at the National Centre for Social and Economic Modelling at the University of Canberra, Australia, and a Senior Visiting Scholar at Chr. Michelsen Institute in Bergen, Norway. His principal area of research has been in building SAM and CGE models to analyze issues like the economics of climate change, the macroeconomic impact of HIV/AIDS, the impact of human capital formation on income distribution, the impact of trade on poverty, and the center-state transfer of resources. Currently he is working on public finances and perspective plans at sub-national level. He has led large research projects and has been the principal author of major reports. He has published a couple of books and many academic journal papers.
