Professor Yousser Mohammad received her Doctorat d’Etat in Medicine from Montpellier University, France, in 1978. She received her CES (Certificat d’Etudes Spéciales) in Pulmonology in 1983. She was a Visiting Professor in the Department of Pulmonary and Sleep Apnea at Wayne State University, USA, in 2000, and she organized and participated in the intensive seminar in clinical research organized at Tishreen University, Syria, held by the French Thoracic Society. She gained her diploma in “Education for Asthma” from the Education for Health Center of Excellence, UK, in 2006, and obtained a qualification in epidemiology and biostatistics surveillance practicum in 2010.
She worked in various French hospitals between 1978 and 1984. She has been a lecturer of pulmonology at Tishreen University since 1984, and she has also worked at Damascus University, Syria, since 2012 and at the Syrian Private University since 2015. She is an active member of international societies including the SPLF, The Union, ERS, AAAAI, ISAAC, GAN, GINA and GOLD. She is WHO consultant for CRD, and she worked for four years in the GARD planning group.
Yousser has participated in clinical research projects with the above societies, the results of which have been published. She has organized local and international seminars in pulmonology, notably the Chronic Respiratory Diseases seminars in Syria. As co-chair of the International COPD coalition, she is the co-author of books on oximetry for primary care, and oxygenotherapy for physicians and patients. She also co-authored a book on asthma (Asthma from childhood to ACOS phenotypes), and in 2016 she edited the Syrian national guide to Chronic Respiratory Diseases for primary care and emergencies, in collaboration with the WHO country office and the GARD.
Since the war, she has led national surveys in shelters for asthma and COPD in collaboration with Professor Teresa as an expert for the Global Alliance against Chronic Respiratory Diseases (GARD). She is the Editor of the GARD section in the Journal of Thoracic Diseases, and in 2017 she co-initiated the National Committee for Chronic Respiratory Diseases at Tishreen University, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and the Center for Chronic Respiratory Diseases at Tishreen University.
