Professor Yongqiu Xia

Dr Yongqiu Xia is an Associate Professor at the Chinese Academy of Sciences' Institute of Soil Science in Nanjing, China. He is interested in sources and fates of nitrogen in agricultural ecosystems and has worked on the life-cycle assessment of agricultural nitrogen fertilizer, measuring denitrification and nitrous oxide emissions from aquatic systems linked to agriculture, and modeling nitrogen cycling. He has published more than 30 top papers in international journals, such as Water Research, Journal of Geophysical Research-Biogeosciences, Science of the Total Environment, Geoderma, Chemosphere, Atmospheric Environment, Biogeosciences, and Ecological Modelling.

Yongqiu studied at the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center, USA, as a visiting scientist from 2014 to 2015. He earned a PhD in soil science from the Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2008. He also holds a Master’s degree from the College of Environmental Sciences at Southwest Jiaotong University in Chengdu, China, and a Bachelor’s degree from the College of Environmental Sciences at Southwest Technology University in Mianyang, China.
