Dr Yi-Cheng Liu

Industrial Technology Research Institute

Yi-Cheng Liu is a Researcher at the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI), Taiwan, specializing in optical coherence tomography, semiconductor optoelectronics, point-of-care device, ultrafast optics, and biophotonics. After receiving his MS degree from the Department of Biomedical Imaging and Radiological Sciences at National Yang-Ming University, Taiwan, he joined Academia Sinica as a Research Assistant, where he worked on high-intensity laser science and light-controlled materials.

There, he was in charge of managing, maintaining and developing an expensive, homemade TW laser system. He designed and constructed many homemade instruments such as special bio-reactors, near-infrared-pulse biological diagnosis platform, electron paramagnetic resonance spectrometers, white-light spectrometer biological diagnosis platforms, etc. He also carried out a project about novel light sources using exciton-polariton condensates at the National Institute of Informatics of Japan and was invited as a visiting researcher to New York University Shanghai, China. Afterwards, he received his PhD degree from the Division of Electrical Engineering at National Taiwan University.

Yi-Cheng has been selected as the Honorary Member of the Phi Tau Phi Scholastic Honor Society and won the Berkeley-Taiwan Biomedical Fellowship. Prior to his appointment at ITRI, he was an Optoelectronics Engineer in high-tech companies and the co-founder of a startup in Silicon Valley. The aim of his work is to bridge academia with industry, from prevention, diagnosis, pharmaceuticals and surgical techniques to medical devices and healthcare.
