Dr Vanita Chandel studied for her BSc at Himachal Pradesh University, India, and her MSc in Mycology and Plant Pathology from Dr Y.S. Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, India, in 2003. She prepared for her PhD at the Institute of Himalayan Bioresource Technology, CSIR Lab, India, before registering for her PhD at Guru Nanak Dev University, India. In 2007 she was awarded with a WOS-A (Department of Science and Technology) funded project.
She has worked on the identification and molecular characterization of viruses of stone and pome fruit in India. She has reported many viruses for the first time in India on stone and pome fruits. In 2009 she completed her PhD and joined the Advance Centre for Plant Viruses at the Indian Agricultural Research Institute as a Research Associate. In 2010 she was appointed as an Assistant Professor at Amity Institute of Virology & Immunology at Amity University, India.
Presently she is working on suppressor identification from the velvet bean severe mosaic virus and viruses of cowpea and weeds in India. She is reviewer for many journals. She also holds life membership of the Indian Virological Society and has been a member of the International Society of Horticulture Science for two years. She has 29 publications to her credit including research papers, reviews and book chapters.
