Dr Robert Thangjam’s research interests are primarily in the area of plant biotechnology, with an emphasis on the use of biotechnological tools for genetic characterization, improvement and sustainable production of plant genetic resources. His research has involved the inventorization of novel characters/genes in the plant genetic resources, particularly in the region of rich biodiversity using novel techniques in the areas of genomics, plant tissue culture and transformation techniques.
He is actively undertaking various funded projects funded by the DBT, DAE, UGC (under the Indian government) as Principal Investigator, and is also supervising PhD and MPhil students. Besides publishing research papers and books, he is also involved in the dissemination of knowledge and policies to end-users and stakeholders through various training and awareness programs, talks and regular articles. He also serve as a reviewer and editor for scientific journals.
