Dr Than Singh Saini

Dr Than Singh Saini received his MSc in Physics from Dr. B.R.A. University, India, in 2006, and his PhD in Photonics from the Department of Applied Physics at Delhi Technological University, India, in 2016. After that he joined the Advanced Materials & Sensors Division (Photonics group) at CSIR-Central Scientific Instruments Organization (CSIO) in Chandigarh, India, as a National Postdoctoral Fellow (SERB-DST, Government of India) where he remained between 2016 and 2017. Currently, he is working as a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Optical Functional Materials Laboratory at the Toyota Technological Institute in Nagoya, Japan, where he has been since October 2017. He is working on the experimental realization of coherent mid-infrared supercontinuum light sources, frequency comb generation, fiber optic parametric amplification, and mode-locked fiber lasers.

Than is the member of IEEE, SPIE and OSA. He was the President of the SPIE DCE Chapter in 2015 and Vice President of the OSA DCE Chapter at Delhi Technological University from 2013 to 2014. He has been the recipient of the three best presentation awards at international conferences (awarded by SPIE and OSA), and has also been awarded several international travel grants to present his research papers at conferences in the USA.

He was a visiting academic at the Edward L. Ginzton Laboratory and Stanford Nano Shared Facilities (SNSF) at Stanford University, USA, and at the College of Optical Sciences at the University of Arizona, USA, both in 2014. He also attended the Siegman International School on Laser at Stanford University in 2014. He was also a visitor of the International Research Centre for Nanophotonics and Metamaterials' Metamaterials Laboratory at ITMO University (Saint-Petersburg National Research University of Information Technologies, Mechanics and Optics), Russia, in 2017.

Than is the author and co-author of more than 75 research papers, published in reputed international journals and conference proceedings. He is a reviewer for the various international journals including Optics Letters (OSA), Photonic Technology Letters (IEEE), Applied Optics (OSA), Optik-International Journal for Light and Electron Optics (Elsevier), Optics Express (OSA), Advances in OptoElectronic (Hindawi), Optical Engineering (SPIE), Optics Communications (Elsevier), the Journal of Lightwave Technology (IEEE/OSA), and the Journal of Selected Topics in Quantum Electronics (IEEE).
