Sorin Hostiuc is a Lecturer in Legal Medicine and Bioethics at the Carol Davila University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Bucharest, Romania, and a Senior Physician in Legal Medicine at the National Institute of Legal Medicine in Bucharest. He has a PhD in Legal Medicine and was a Fogarty Scholar in Bioethics at Icahn School of Medicine, Mount Sinai University, USA.

He has published over 140 articles in legal medicine, bioethics, and related disciplines, the majority of which were accepted for publications indexed in the Web of Science. He has been involved in more than 10 national and international research projects in various positions, from member of the research team to the project manager, including Sound of Vision. Natural sense of vision through acoustics and haptics (Horizon 2020 - H2020-PHC-2014-single-stage, 643636) and Consent in psychiatry in Romania. Historiography, research ethics, and social consequences (PN2-PCCA-215/2012).

His main areas of interest in legal medicine are sudden cardiac death (with an emphasis on coronary abnormalities and variants), sudden endocrine death, clinical legal medicine, consequences of infectious pathologies for legal medicine practice, forensic neuropathology, causation, evidence-based legal medicine, and developing multi- and interdisciplinary techniques to improve the sensitivity of forensic diagnosis.
