S. Serhat Serter graduated from the Cinema and Television Department in the Faculty of Communication Sciences, Anadolu University, Turkey, in 1996 and became a research assistant in the same department in 1997. He got his PhD degree in 2005 and has been working as an Associate Professor in the same department since 2017. He teaches script writing, history of film, film style, TV production, mythology, and film genre at undergraduate level and modern cinema at graduate level.
He was the vice-coordinator of the TRT School between 2012 and 2014 and academic adviser of Anadolu University’s Cinema Club between 1997 and 2014. He has been the festival director and vice-president of the Eskisehir International Film Festival since it was established in 1998. He has published several articles in national and international journals, and has presented papers at various international conferences. He is also a member of the jury at national and international film competitions.
Serhat is the project manager of two scientific research projects about children who have Down's syndrome and dyslexia. He directed two documentary films for those projects in 2016, which were screened at several international film festivals. He is also the editor of two books about contemporary Turkish cinema and Star Wars movies, released in 2016 and 2017. The second, expanded edition of his Star Wars book was released in January 2018.
