Dr Senthil Kumaran

Dr Senthil Kumaran is currently working as an Associate Professor at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Vellore Institute of Technology University, Vellore, Tamilnadu, India. He has been working for more than ten years at various engineering institutions. He has guided various undergraduate and postgraduate students and PhD research scholars in different fields such as friction welding, tribology, non-traditional machining process and composite materials.

He completed his research work in friction welding processes improvement at the National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli. More broadly, his research interests lie in advanced state welding processes, materials and metallurgy, composite materials and quality management, unconventional machining processes, optimisation, material characterization and the mechanical behavior of materials. He has published more than 125 articles, and has contributed to work on genetic algorithms, acoustic emissions, artificial neural networks, and fuzzy logic and optimisation techniques in quality improvement of manufacturing processes.

Senthil received the Young Scientist Award from the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB), New Delhi in 2014 and has completed a research project in 2017 under the topic of friction welding of SA 213 tubes to SA 387 tube plates using an external tool. He has also received the Best Professor Award from the Lions Club in the 2017 and an achievement award from IOSRD in the ysame year. He is a lifetime member of the Indian Society of Technical Education, the Indian Welding Society, the International Association of Engineers, and the International Research Engineers and Doctors.
