Dr Sarbeswar Praharaj

Sarbeswar Praharaj is a member of academic staff in the Faculty of Built Environment at the University of New South Wales, Australia, where he currently holds the position of Coordinator for the Australia India Smart Cities Knowledge Exchange Network sponsored by the Australia-India Council, DFAT Australia Government. His institution designated him as a “Global Tech Fellow” in 2017 for spearheading research collaboration with the member institutions of the Global Alliance of Technological Universities.

In the Smart Cities Research Cluster at the University of New South Wales, Sarbeswar leads India-focused research on smart cities policy, business models and smart governance frameworks. He specialises in building digital platforms to bring together local stakeholders for shaping collaborative urban development plans. Having been awarded the inaugural UNSW India Research Roadshow Grant 2017, Sarbeswar has been actively building an open data analytics platform for smart cities in India.

Before joining the University of New South Wales, Sarbeswar was appointed as the Head of the Urban Planning Department and Consultancy Outreach Leader at LPU University, India. He has also served as Project Manager at CEPT University, where he consulted for prestigious clients such as the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank, Cities Alliance, Global Land and Tools Network. Sarbeswar obtained his PhD from the University of New South Wales, his Master's in Urban Planning from CEPT University, and his Master's in Geography (Regional Planning) from the University of Calcutta.
