Dr Rhiannon Lord is a Lecturer in the sociology of sport, exercise and health at Abertay University, UK. She completed her PhD at Cardiff Metropolitan University, UK, in 2015. This work explored the embodied experiences of trampoline gymnasts over the course of their careers using an ethnographic approach. Gender inequities and embodiments were a key focus of this work.
Rhiannon has published work on the challenges associated with athletic careers over time, particularly in gymnastics. Her broader research interests include embodiment in sport and exercise subcultures, narrative constructions of self and identity in sport, exercise and health groups, youth sport and qualitative research methodologies, including research ethics.
She is a member of the International Sociology of Sport Association, the Leisure Studies Association, and she is the former administrator of the Leisure Studies Journal. Her work focuses on applying empirical and theoretical work to policy and practice. Prior to her academic career, Rhiannon worked in the sport and leisure industry for 10 years.
