Dr Paul Awoyera is a 2016 Commonwealth and University of Nottingham Split-site PhD Scholarship winner. He obtained his PhD in civil engineering (structures and materials) from Covenant University, Ota, Nigeria. He holds a Master of Civil Engineering degree in Structural Engineering and a Bachelor of Civil Engineering degree from the Federal University of Technology, Akure, Nigeria. He was a one year visiting PhD student at the Nottingham Transportation Engineering Centre, Nottingham, United Kingdom between September, 2016 and August, 2017.
He has been lecturing at the Department of Civil Engineering, Covenant University, Nigeria since 2013. Prior to joining Covenant University, he has worked as a professional civil engineer on numerous projects in the field, covering areas such as: structural design, building construction, subsoil investigation, concrete waterproofing and non-destructive testing. His pedagogical interests include but not limited to; structural health monitoring and condition assessment of civil infrastructures, non-destructive testing/evaluation of reinforced concrete structures, forensic investigation on structural materials at high temperatures, and the use of recycled materials in civil engineering applications.
Paul is a registered engineer with the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), a member of the International Association for Engineers (IAENG), and a corporate member of the Nigeria Society of Engineers (NSE). He has also served as the editor/editorial board member or reviewer for numerous international journals.
