Professor Nkemngong Nkengasong

Nkemngong Nkengasong is a Professor of English Literature and Postcolonial Studies at the University of Yaounde 1, Cameroon. He has published several books and scores of academic articles on African literature and culture, British and postcolonial literatures and Cameroonian Pidgin. Nkemngong is also a well-known Cameroonian writer and critic whose works cut across several genres. He was educated at the Seat of Wisdom College Fontem and later the University of Yaounde 1, where he obtained his PhD in 2004. His current academic interests include the interrelations of literature, cultural ecology and ecocriticism.

Nkemngong’s academic and creative works have taken him to many parts of the world. Notably, he was a Writer-in-Residence at the University of Iowa, USA, He has also been a Fellow at Corpus Christi College, Oxford, New York University, the University of Regensburg (Germany), Howard University (USA), and the National University of Singapore. He has received several awards including the title of Honorary Fellow in Writing from the University of Iowa in 2008, the Eko Prize for Literature in 2013, and in 2016 he was decorated by the Cameroonian government with the title of “Knight of the Cameroon Order of Valour”.
