Nita Mathur has more than two decades of teaching and research experience, and is currently based at Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), India. She has been a visiting Scholar at Maison Des Sciences de l’Homme (MSH), Paris, and a member of the Visiting Faculty at the School of Planning and Architecture (SPA), New Delhi; the School of Environmental Studies, University of Delhi; and finally the Centre for the Study of Social Systems, Jawaharlal Nehru University, also in New Delhi. She is also an Academic Member of the Athens Institute for Education and Research (AITNER), Greece.
Nita's edited books, Cultural Rhythms in Emotions, Narratives and Dance, Santhal Worldview. and Consumer Culture, Modernity and Identity deal with the central issue of the social construction of identity. Some of her most noted publications in national and international journals are in areas of consumer culture, the middle classes, folklore, performance studies, tribal languages, and culture. She is currently pursing research on lifestyle choices and the construction of modern identities.
