Mònica Figueras-Maz is a tenured lecturer in the Department of Communication at Pompeu Fabra University (UPF), Spain. She holds a PhD in Journalism from UPF, a Bachelor’s in Information Sciences from Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), Spain, and a Bachelor’s in Political Science and Sociology (UAB). She is currently co-coordinator of the Official Joint Master’s Degree in Youth and Society and current vice-rector of Social Engagement and Equality Projects. She is also director of the audience and reception studies section of the AE-IC (Spanish Communication Research Association).
She is member of two research groups, CAS (Communication, Advertising and Society) and GRP (Journalism Research Group) and she is also the coordinator of the Jovis.com research group (Youth, Society and Communication). Her main research lines are related to youth and communication, media literacy and ethics of communication with special attention to gender issues. She has published articles and books on these topics. She is the author of chapters in books and articles in academic journals like Young, New Media & Society, Journalism and Mass Communication Quarterly and the Journal of Mass Media Ethics. She has a long experience in research projects, and since 2016 she has been scientific officer of official projects about digital literacy.
