Communication

Auckland University of Technology

Dr Matt Mollgaard is Head of Radio in the School of Communication Studies at Auckland University of Technology, New Zealand, and has been publishing on media issues since 2005. His research focuses on problematizing the media in order to extract nuances, meanings and useful theoretical knowledge from our critical communication structures.

Matt has spent over 20 years working in radio as an announcer, audio engineer, programmer and manager. This allows him to bring real-world experience and respect for practice into his academic work. He was the editor and a contributor to the 2012 book Radio & Society: New Thinking for an Old Media and has published on media change in the digital age, international broadcasting, new journalism modalities, media policy and media economics.

He is on the scientific committee for the biannual Transnational Radio Conference – a globally focused research effort centred on radio as a key media technology – and is an international peer reviewer for books, articles and presentations across media issues.
