Dr Hossein Fahimi

Islamic Azad University of Medical Sciences

Hossein Fahimi completed his PhD in Molecular Genetics at Tarbiat Modares University in Tehran, Iran. He is currently a lecturer and researcher at the department of genetics at Islamic Azad University of Medical Sciences, Tehran. His research interests are the bolecular basis of genetic diseases, and the design, expression and application of recombinant proteins in biotechnology.

The project that he is currently working on is a study of genetic mutations that cause non-syndromic deafness. By using molecular methods such as PCR and sequencing, ARMS-PCR, real-time PCR, and NGS, his research group is trying to find a relationship between different mutations and the genetic basis of the disease. Furthermore, by using bioinformatics software, recombinant protein expression, and functional analyses, they are looking for the molecular mechanism of pathways that results in deafness.

Hossein has undertaken several studies on recombinant protein expression, gene expression studies (using real-time PCR & RT-PCR), plant tissue culture and engineering, and genetic diseases. He has considerable teaching experience and has also supervised graduate projects as a supervisor and co-supervisor.
