Dr Gastón García López

Dr Gastón García López obtained his PhD in Physics and a degree in Mathematics from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, Spain.

He has worked in the fields of High Energy Physics (ZEUS collaboration at DESY and ATLAS collaboration at CERN), ion beam accelerator techniques for analysis and modification of materials (Center for Materials Micro-analysis at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, with a particular emphasis on understanding and using in a customized way radiation damage on different types of materials), and synchrotron light techniques and instrumentation.

Gastón has worked for the ALBA synchrotron light source facility in Barcelona, Spain, since 2006. Initially he worked in the coordination of the facility construction project before taking office as acting director for half a year in 2012, and he now works as deputy director. Presently he is responsible, among other activities, for the new beamline construction projects.
