Eugene Steele has taught English literature in English departments at universities in a variety of settings, including the United States, Libya, Morocco, Nigeria, Turkey, Taiwan, the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait. A native of Dublin, Ireland, he was educated at King’s College London, UK (BA Hons) and the University of Michigan, USA (MA and PhD).
He has published extensively, including Carlo Goldoni: A Life and Dark Alien in Shakespeare, and has edited and co-edited volumes on English literature in Africa and China. His interests include Anglophone postcolonial literatures of Africa, India and the West Indies, and modern British and American poetry. At present, he is a Professor of English literature at Erciyes University, Turkey, and is involved in a project examining the trend to ‘dumb down’ Shakespeare’s plays in the modern media.
