He is also on the editorial board of the Journal of Power Sources and the International Journal of Hydrogen Energy. He has been the Managing Guest Editor of six Special Issues of top-tier journals including the European Journal of Operational Research (IF: 3.29), the Journal of Cleaner Production (IF: 5.7), the International Journal of Production Research (IF: 2.3), and Sustainability (IF:1.7), and Guest Editor for two Special Issues of journals such as the International Journal of Production Economics (IF 3.49) and Computers and Industrial Engineering (IF 2.62).

As Associate Editor, Ernesto has the responsibility of supervising the entire submission and review process of the manuscripts submitted including the final acceptance for publication. This service provides a broad and global vision of research trends, challenges and opportunities in many fields related to supply chains, logistics, operations research, operations management, climate change, sustainability, environment, and manufacturing, to name a few. He is the founding subject editor of Operations Research, Operations Management and Decision Support approaches for sustainability in a top tier journal in the area of Sustainable Development. He serves on the Scientific and Organizing Committee of several conferences that take place in different countries around the world such as CLAIO (Latin-American Operations Research Congress), SDM, EURO/IFORS and ICEIS and has been the general co-chair of the 2015 and 2017 Global Conferences on the Theory and Practice of OR/OM for sustainability.
