Eric Mielants is Associate Professor of Sociology in the College of Arts and Sciences at Fairfield University, USA, and Research Associate of the Maison des Sciences de l'Homme in Paris, France. He is a graduate of the University of Ghent, Belgium, as well as the State University of New York at Binghamton where he specialized in social theory, political economy and historical comparative sociology.
He is the author of The Origins of Capitalism and the Rise of the West and co-editor of two volumes: Caribbean Migration to the US and Western Europe and Mass Migration in the World-System: Past, Present and Future. Eric has also written articles and essays on racism, capitalism, social theory, political economy and contemporary migration issues which have been published in Dutch, French, German, Spanish, Korean, Turkish and Japanese.
Eric is currently Chair of the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at Fairfield University. Prior to joining Fairfield, he held full time academic positions at the University of Utah, USA, Western Kentucky University, USA and the State University of New York.
