Dr Enrique E. Fernandez

Dr Enrique Encabo Fernandez is Senior Lecturer in Music at the University of Murcia, Spain. He completed his Ph.D on Musicology and Comparative Literature at the Universitat Autònoma in Barcelona. He has studied the nature and context of Spanish music in 1898 and considered its influence on nation-building movements in Spain and Catalonia. His research interests include historical and critical musicology with particular reference to music and audiovisual culture, music and stage, popular musical theatre (zarzuela, cuplé, cabaret, music-hall etc.), and performance practice. He has been invited to speak at a number of institutions including the Universidade Nova de Lisboa, Charles University in Prague, Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales (Paris), and has participated in more than sixty international conferences. He is the author and editor of the following publications: Música y nacionalismos en España. El arte en la era de la ideología (2007), Música y Cultura Audiovisual: Horizontes (2014), Música y Cultura Audiovisual: de la pantalla al aula (2015), Reinventing Sound: Music and Audiovisual Culture (2015), Música y prensa: crítica, polémica y propaganda (2015), and Sound in Motion: Cinema, Videogames, Technology and Audiences (2018). He is also on various scientific committees and editorial boards of academic journals, and the director of the International Conference Música y Cultura Audiovisual (MUCA).
