Darius Kučinskas is a musicologist, Professor at Kaunas University of Technology, Lithuania, and international expert of higher education in music. He graduated from the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre as a pianist (1993), later turning to musicology and defending his PhD in Čiurlionis’ music (2002).
He has worked as a music researcher at the National M. K. Čiurlionis Art Museum and as a music editor at Jonas Petronis Music, and was also Head of the Department of Audiovisual Arts from 2004 until 2014. He has organized and led several national and international conferences on music interpretation, music semiotics and music technologies, and has also led several national music research projects.
Darius has published over 20 research articles, 15 music editions, and participated in more than 40 conferences in Europe, USA and Asia. His most important publications are The Musical Text of Čiurlionis Piano Music (Aspect of Genesis) (monograph, 2004), Chronological Catalogue of Čiurlionis Music (2007), Piano Works of Čiurlionis (urtext edition, 2011), and Complete Catalogue of Lithuanian Music for Pianola (2014).
His research interests include music history of the 19-20th centuries, music recording technologies, art synthesis and the music of M. K. Čiurlionis.
