Dr Carmo D’Souza

Dr Carmo D’Souza, MSc, BEd, LLM, PhD (Laws), is a retired Professor of Law. He began his teaching carrier in 1949 as an assistant teacher at a secondary school, gradually moving to higher secondary schools, from where he joined a Law College, teaching at undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate levels. He was awarded his PhD (Laws) by Savitribai Phule Pune University (then University of Poona) in 1990. He has successfully guided eight scholars who were awarded PhD degrees to date, and he enjoys guiding students to research in the areas of law or humanities.

Carmo has written half a dozen books on law and another half a dozen on his other interests, which include novelettes, humorous sketches, and nostalgic memories of his village. Together with his late brother Dr Anthony D’Souza, he also co-edited two books for Cambridge Scholars: World Constitutionalism (2007) and Civil Law Studies: An India Perspective (2009). Both books are a compilation of fine articles written by a dozen academicians from Portugal and India.

Since retiring, his main interests are in authoring, editing, planning, and guiding book publications, and he will specialise in the fields of criminology and the criminal justice system as an Editorial Advisory Board Member for Cambridge Scholars. He will endeavour to motivate scholars and academicians to contribute to unique and creative topics in these areas which will enrich knowledge and research.
