Professor Anis Bajrektarevic

Professor Anis Bajrektarevic is a former legal practitioner, president of the Young Lawyers Association of BiH Bar (late 1980s), MFA official and career diplomat (early 1990s). He was also Research Fellow at the Institute for Modern Political-History Analyses, Dr. Bruno Kreisky Foundation, as well as the Legal and Political Advisor for CEE at the Vienna-based political academy, the Dr Karl Renner Institute (mid-1990s). He was Senior Legal Officer and Permanent Representative to the UN Office in Vienna of the intergovernmental organization ICMPD during the 1990s.

During the 2000s and 2010s, he was attached to the IMC University of Austria as a Professor and Chairman for International Law and Global Political Studies. For the past 15 years, he has taught geo-political affairs, international law (including international relations, law of IOs and EU law) and sustainable development (institutions and instruments thereof). Besides this, he served as a pro bono expert for numerous academic institutions, think-tanks and intergovernmental institutions (such as the UN ECE, OSCE, Council of Europe, American Bar, and the Oxford Academy of Total Intelligence).

Anis is the editor of the New York-based Geopolitics, History and International Relations journal and an editorial board member of several similar magazines on three continents. The International Institute for Middle-East and Balkan Studies (IFIMES) in Vienna has recently entrusted him as its Department Head for Strategic Studies on Asia, and its Permanent Representative to Austria and Vienna-based IOs. He also recently launched one of the fastest-expanding European platforms for politics and economy, security and energy, with special chapters on the environment and the so-called ‘tomorrow’s people for the green planet/economy’ – Modern Diplomacy. Starting modestly just two years ago, today it has over 1 million monthlyclicks.

He is the author of dozens of presentations, publications, speeches, seminars, and research colloquiums, as well as of numerous public events (round tables, study trips, etc.). His writings are frequently published on all five continents, and he is a regular guest lecturer at many national diplomatic academies, prestigious national universities and governmental training facilities.

Anis has authored six books: FB – Geopolitics of Technology (Addleton Academic Publishers, NY); Geopolitics – Europe 100 years later (DB, Europe), Cyber Scape (LAP, Germany); Nuclear Commerce (NOVA, NY); Geopolitics – Energy – Technology (Germany, LAP). Europe and Africa – Security structures (Nova, NY) is his latest, recently-released book.

He is an elected arbiter and mediator before several permanent national arbitrational tribunals in Europe and Asia. He currently lives in Vienna, Austria.
