National Pedagogical Dragomanov University



Alla Valerianivna Korolyova is Doctor of Philological Sciences, Full Professor, and Head of the Department of General Linguistics and Germanistics at the National Pedagogical Dragomanov University, Ukraine. Alla has a long background of professional activity in higher educational establishments in Ukraine, most recently with the National Pedagogical Dragomanov University.

She graduated from the Francisk Skorina Gomel State University, Belarus, in 1986 with a “Philologist: Teacher of Russian Language and Literature” qualification, before obtaining her Diploma (with Honours) in 1997 from Berdyansk State Pedagogical University, Ukraine, specialising in Ukrainian language and literature. Alla undertook postgraduate studies from 1992 to 1996 in the Department of Slavic Languages: Phonetics and Grammar at Kyiv National Linguistic University (then Kyiv State Pedagogical Institute of Foreign Languages), Ukraine. Between 1996 and 1999, Alla was the Dean of the Faculty of Ukrainian and Slavic Philology at Berdyansk State Pedagogical Institute, before undertaking her doctoral studies at Kyiv National Linguistic University between 1999 and 2002, and she defended her doctoral thesis in 2003.

She has served as Assistant Professor in the Department of General and Ukrainian Linguistics at Kyiv National Linguistic University (2002-2003), Head of the Department of Germanic and Comparative Linguistics at the National Pedagogical Dragomanov University (2005–2010), and Head of the Department of General and Comparative Linguistics and Neo-Greek Philology at Kyiv National Linguistic University (2010–2015). In 2015 she became Head of the Department of General Linguistics and Germanistics at the National Pedagogical Dragomanov University.

Alla is the Editor-in-Chief of the scientific journal of the National Pedagogical Dragomanov University, and chairman of the academic council at the National Pedagogical Dragomanov University (for Doctoral and Candidate Degrees) in philology, comparative historical and typological linguistics and structural, applied and mathematical linguistics. She is an academic council member (for Doctoral and Candidate Degrees) in romance languages and comparative historical and typological linguistics at the Kyiv National Linguistic University. Alla masterminds such scientific areas as linguistic anthropogenesis and macrocomparativistics. Since 2016 she has been the chairman of the Scientific Fundamental Project (financiated by the Ukrainian Government Budget Fund “Germanic-Roman-Slavic Corpus of Authentic Scientific Texts in Linguistic Antropogenesis: Development of the Next-Generation Technologies”).

She edited six chapters of the modular system of educational process coursebook English Language (2008-2012), utilised by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine. Alla is the author of more than 100 scientific works in cognitive linguistic comparative study and marcocomparativistics, including two individual monographs, one chapter in an edited collection, more than 60 articles in professional Ukrainian linguistic journals, 20 articles in international linguistic journals, one article in a journal indexed in Copernicus Base and one article in a journal indexed in Scopus.

Alla is the representative of the scientific research group “Germanic-Roman-Slavic Corpus of Authentic Scientific Texts in Linguistic Anthropogenesis: Development of the Next-Generation Technologies”, sharing her knowledge with the next generation of scientists undertaking doctoral works, undergraduate degrees and Master's diploma theses in this area (she has supervised 29 defended theses in general linguistics, Germanic languages, and comparative historical and typological linguistics, as well as one defended doctoral research and two submitted defence of doctoral research).
