Dr Alexey Bogomazov

Binary Stars

Sternberg Astronomical Institute

Alexey Bogomazov received his PhD in Astrophysics in 2005 from the Sternberg Astronomical Institute at Lomonosov Moscow State University (SAI MSU), Russia, under the supervision of Professor V.M. Lipunov. Since then he has continued to work at SAI MSU as a senior research scientist. His fields of interest are the population synthesis of the evolution of binary stars and the search for a multiplicity of eclipsing binary stars.

He has published 26 papers in peer-reviewed journals. The most cited articles concern: (i) calculations of frequencies of long gamma ray bursts and the merging of black holes and neutron stars, and (ii) calculations of the dependence on time of the average summary mass of merging carbon-oxygen white dwarfs to test supernovae type Ia as a cosmological standard candle from a population synthesis point of view.
