Professor Aleksandra Nikčević-Batrićević

Dr Aleksandra Nikčević-Batrićević (Associate Professor) graduated in English Language and Literature at the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Montenegro. She currently lectures there on American literature and teaches a special literature course on feminist literary theory and criticism, and American women's poetry. She is the author of various texts on American and English literature, having edited and translated numerous books published in Montenegro and the UK, and she is involved in literary theory and criticism and the translation of texts on literature and literary theory.

Between 2013 and 2015 she was the coordinator of the Study Programme for English Language and Literature at the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Montenegro. She is the president of the Montenegrin Society for American Studies 'dr Biljana Milatović' and one of the organisers of an international conference of Anglo-American studies held at the Faculty of Philology in Nikšić, Montenegro, organised by the Study Programme for English Language and Literature. She has also organised conferences dedicated to women’s writing held at the American Corner in Podgorica and Cetinje, Montenegro.

Aleksandra has initiated many translation projects in cooperation with the Open Cultural Forum in Cetinje, which have resulted in a significant number of publications in the area of American literature. She is the coordinator of several projects being realised in the former Yugoslavia. She has had many stays in English-speaking areas, carrying out research work in the area of American literature (2002, 2004, 2007, 2009 and 2013 in Cambridge, New York and other cities in the USA). In 2004 she spent time as part of a Melville Society scholarship at the Maritime Institute in New Bedford, USA, where she carried out research work on literature by the American writer Herman Melville.
