This book explores the basic concepts of genetics and heredity in human diseases. It discusses techniques like RT-PCR, karyotyping, DNA/RNA extraction, RFLP, DNA sequencing and electrophoresis, which will be helpful in clinical diagnostics for patients. The book also considers developmental anomalies and birth defects, as well as the potential for folate metabolism to act as a “risk factor” in genetic disorders.


Professor Ajit K. Saxena received his PhD from the Department of Anatomy (Cytogenetics) at the Institute of Medical Sciences of Banaras Hindu University, India, in 1990. He is currently Professor and Head of the Department of Pathology/Lab Medicine at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Patna. He is the author of several research papers and books, including Genes and Infertility in Humans, FISH Analysis for Drugs and Chemicals Mediated Cellular Toxicity, and Novel Coronavirus 2019: In-silico Vaccine Design and Drug Discovery. He is a Fellow and Member of the National Academy of Sciences, USA, the National Academy for Advancement of Science and Technology, USA, the National Academy of Medical Sciences, India, the Indian Association of Biomedical Scientists, and the Indian Association of Applied Biotechnology.
