This two-volume work speaks to the entire scope of Professor Odebunmi’s research concerns in general pragmatics, medical and clinical pragmatics, literary discourse, critical discourse analysis, applied linguistics and language sociology. Its 52 chapters across both volumes (24 chapters in this volume and 28 chapters in Volume 2) written by established scholars such as Jacob Mey, Paul Hopper, Joyce Mathangwane, and Ming-Yu Tseng, in addition to the honoree, explore the dynamics of the interplay of spatial, temporal, agential and (non-)institutional factors that drive discourse/textual constructions, negotiations and interpretations and sometimes influence human cognition and actions. ‘Niyi Osunbade is a Professor of (English) Pragmatics and Discourse Studies at the Department of General Studies of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Nigeria. His papers have appeared in many established international journals.
Foluke O. Unuabonah, PhD, lectures in the Department of English of Redeemer’s University, Nigeria. Her areas of interest include discourse analysis and (corpus) pragmatics.
Ayo Osisanwo, PhD, is a Lecturer in the Department of English of the University of Ibadan, Nigeria. His papers have appeared in such peer-reviewed journals as Discourse and Society and Discourse and Communication.
Akinbiyi Adetunji holds a PhD in English (Linguistics) from Texas A&M University, USA. His areas of research interest include pragmatics and discourse analysis.
Funke Josephine Oni, PhD, lectures at the Department of Languages and Linguistics of Federal University Dutsinma, Nigeria. Her research interests cover (critical) discourse analysis, stylistics, semantics and syntax.
