Beginning with an overview of information and communication networks and architecture, the text explores information theory, coding and modulation schemes, wave propagation, wireless and wireline communications, network security, network management, network planning and optimisation methods for digital communication networks.
Dr Shun-Ping Chen studied Electrical Engineering and Communication Technologies and Systems at the Technical University Braunschweig, Germany, and received his PhD with a thesis on the components of optoelectronic integration in 1992. In 1995, he became a project specialist and project manager, then group leader and head of department at the German mobile network operator E-Plus Mobile Network, where he was responsible for transport network planning and systems. He is currently a Professor of Communication Technologies and Networks at the Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences, Germany, where he is also the Director of the Institute of Communication Technologies.
