"Controversies in Medicine and Neuroscience: Through the Prism of History, Neurobiology, and Bioethics (2023) is well worth reading and studying. It should be standard on all doctor’s bookshelves and among the interested laymen."

Reflections on Society and Academia: Cultures Adrift

This anthology assembles notes that address a wider spectrum of concern within the social sciences, as well as higher education and design and planning issues. The essays, articles and book reviews gathered here allow for an easy, and holistic, assessment of publications that cover various themes and were written during the past two decades. In addition, four chapters specifically written for this volume are included, two dealing with academic productivity, and the remaining two addressing aspects of economics and issues of design.

Marcel Herbst is a consultant in the area of Higher Education Management. His research focuses on productivity issues, including scale and agglomeration economies, resource allocation, and performance-based budgeting and funding. Formerly, he served as a senior administrator of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zurich, as a development economist (working mainly in developing countries), and as an academic in the fields of planning and environmental sciences at the University of Virginia. He is the author and editor of a number of books, including The Institution of Science and the Science of Institutions and Financing Public Universities: The Case of Performance Funding.
