Sayyab Translation Studies Series
Sayyab Translation Series is a double-blind peer-reviewed international series dedicated to promoting scholarly exchange among theorists, teachers and researchers in the field of translation studies. It seeks to bring professional and academic interests closer by addressing a wide range of issues related to translation, such as theoretical and practical aspects of translation in all its forms; the translator and translation-related legal, financial, and professional concerns world-wide, and freelancing; implementation of technology into the translation profession; critical evaluation of new trends in translation studies; methodological, historical, comparative and didactic matters; suggesting and/or reviewing academic courses, textbooks, glossaries, pedagogical approaches to translation, and many other complex and challenging issues of translation; interpreting studies; corpus-based translation studies; intercultural studies and translation.
Ali Almanna received his MA in translation studies from the University of Westminster (UK) and his Ph.D in translation studies from the University of Durham (UK). He is co-author with Faisal Almanna of Translation: History, Theory & Practice (in Arabic: 2008).
He is also co-editor with Prof. Mohammed Farghal of Translation between Creativity of Language & Dynamism of Culture (in Arabic 2013). Further, he is co-translator with Alya’ Al-Raubia’i of Modern Iraqi Short Stories (2009) and with Mike Hall of Moroccan Short Stories (2014). Further, he is author of Translation Theories Exemplified from Cicero to Pierre Bourdieu: a Coursebook on Translation. München: Lincom Europa Academic Publishers (2014) and co-edited of Culguage in/of Translation from Arabic (edited book) München: Lincom Europa Academic Publishers (2014). He has also published a number of academic papers. Currently, Almanna is Asst. Professor of translation at the Department of Foreign Languages- Translation Section, College of Arts and Sciences, University of Nizwa, Oman.
Said Faiq, FRSA, is Professor of intercultural studies and translation at the American University of Sharjah (UAE), where he was chair/head of department (2003-07, 2009-10), and director of the graduate program in translation and interpreting (2002-11). He is a visiting professor at Exeter University (UK). Prior to his current position, he worked in Africa, the Middle East and the United Kingdom (Salford University, (1990-2003), where he was director of studies for undergraduate and graduate programs in Arabic/English translation and interpreting; and Leeds University, (1996-1998), where he was visiting lecturer in applied linguistics).
