"[Second Thoughts on Capitalism and the State is a] profoundly reflective book shows a pathway forward for academics and activists alike who are stymied by the disconnect between deep critical scholarship and emancipatory social change, yet who will still not give up the good fight."

On-board Intellectual Aircraft Crew Support Systems

The human factor remains one of the most important problems affecting flight safety. On the other hand, however, the complexity of onboard control and navigational systems grows constantly. As such, a great deal of research has gone into creating onboard systems which would interact with pilots and assist them in order to avoid flight accidents.

This book provides unique insights into the building of such a system, using the so-called confidential approach for the analysis and synthesis of the dynamical systems, operating under the influence of various uncontrollable factors. As a result, the book details an intellectual expert system able to support the crew during standard flight modes. This system is able to detect a hazard in real-time mode, identify its source, and provide recommendations for the pilots. The book also investigates the confidence model, offering formulas and examples of expert systems’ functioning.

Professor Mikhail Krasilshchikov, DSc, is Professor at the Information and Control Complexes Department of the Moscow Aviation Institute, and has worked for more than 50 years on the design and development of integrated navigation control and guidance systems. His research also explores intellectual control and expert systems.

Professor Veniamin Evdokimenkov, DSc, is Head of the Information and Control Complexes Department of the Moscow Aviation Institute. He has more than 30 years of experience in the design and development of onboard intellectual and expert systems, applied in various unmanned and manned flying vehicles. He also participates in development of intellectual control and expert systems, individually adapted to human operator (pilot) psycho-physiological state.

Professor Kirill Sypalo, DSc, is a Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The General Director at the Central Aerohydrodynamic Institute, Russia, he has more than 30 years of experience in the design and development of integrated navigation control and guidance systems.
