Meet our Authors: Claudio Costa - July 2019

Claudio Costa received his PhD in Philosophy from the University of Konstanz, Germany. He is currently Full Professor at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil, keeping in touch with the international philosophical community by means of numerous sabbaticals at the University of California, Berkeley, Oxford, München, Göteborg, and the École Normale Supérieure, among others.

One of Claudio's main publication in English is The Philosophical Inquiry (2002), which develops a general theory on the nature of philosophy. His most important publications in international journals of philosophy over the last fifteen years have been extensively revised for publication in his book, Lines of Thought: Rethinking Philosophical Assumptions (2014)

Under Cambridge Scholars Publishing, Claudio has authored Lines of Thought: Rethinking Philosophical Assumptions and Philisophical Semantics: Reintergrating Theoretical Philosophy.

Claudio explains his reasons for choosing to publish with Cambridge Scholars Publishing, emphasising that the fair and responsible way in which authors are treated has led him to return and publish a second title with us:

It is often difficult for an outsider from a developing country to publish in the hierarchical traditional system of academic publishers in the  USA and UK, particularly in a highly abstract field like analytic philosophy. A few great publishers have acquired a near monopoly in a market where standards of value have long since been decided from above, and even the work of evaluating outsiders’ projects is rejected as too insignificant to concern major insiders. However, knowledge is becoming increasingly globalized, which means that good ideas can emerge from a wide range of unexpected sources. In my case, I believe I have found something new and relevant, which is my effort to find a more systematic way to work with theoretical philosophy that is indifferent to the impositions of the mainstream. CSP was receptive to my project from the start. And it gave me the necessary freedom to develop my views with the generous assistance of their staff. The printing was of the best quality, and I was encouraged to choose my cover art. I was able to decide what I wanted, and the final design and layout improved the covers aesthetically in a most professional manner. Because of its competence and an unbiased approach to meeting the demands of the publishing market, CSP is making a name for itself as an important platform for the spread of new ideas in the English-speaking world."
