Professor Hideo Matsuzaki obtained his MD degree in 1994 from Oita Medical University, Japan, and his PhD degree in 2003 from the Osaka University Graduate School of Medicine, Japan. He is a Professor at the Research Center for Child Mental Development at the University of Fukui, Japan, and concurrently serves as Vice Dean of the United Graduated School of Child Development at Osaka University, Japan. The Matsuzaki laboratory focuses on the elucidation of autistic pathophysiology by integrating basic neurobiology, genetics, and behavioural science with translational research of autism. Hideo has also put considerable effort into fostering large-scale collaborative patient resources for autism research in Japan. He has served on numerous scientific advisory boards, including as a JSPS committee member on Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research (KAKENHI) and the Fukui prefectural committee member on medical doctor training projects on children's mental risk in Japan. His is also a member of numerous societies, including the Society for Neuroscience, the International Society for Autism Research, the Japanese Society for Neurochemistry (Councilor), the Japanese Brain Science Society (Councilor), the Japanese Society of Biological Psychiatry, the Japanese Society for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, the Japanese Society of Clinical Neuropsychopharmacology, and the Japan Society for DOHaD. His major research interests are in Autism research and molecular psychiatry focusing on lipid biochemistry.
