Dr Mariella Nocenzi, PhD. in “Sociology of culture and political processes”, is currently a Professor in the Department of Communication and Social Research at the Sapienza University of Rome, Italy, where she teaches courses on social analysis of the metropolis and social policies for cooperation. She has also taught at the University of Florence and the University of Verona, Italy. She was a member of the national executive of the Italian Association of Sociology (AIS) after having served as Secretary of the AIS Section “Sociological theories and social changes” (2007-2010 and 2010-2013). She founded and co-edits (with Angelo Romeo) the book series “Sociologie” for Mimesis Publishers (Milan) and the series “Societas” for La Nuova Cultura (Rome). These series have published works by young sociologists on the issues of the interpretations of the classics of sociology and social transformations. Mariella is currently a member of the Guarantee Committee of Sapienza University of Rome and is a founding member of the scientific council of the Interuniversity Observatory of Gender, Gender and Equal Opportunity (GIO). She is also Assistant Editor of the International Review of Sociology and a member of the editorial board of the Rivista di studi sulla sostenibilità. She manages Sostenibilia – International Observatory of social theory on the new technologies and the sustainability. Among her areas of research in national and international projects are the risk society and the conditions of security and safety in globalization. She has edited several publications, drawn from research on environmental issues, risk, Europe, young people, equal opportunities and gender policies. Her latest publications include the themed section "Migratory and Intercultural Processes from a Gender Perspective: the Changing Roles of Migrant Women in the Countries of Origin and Destination" in the International Review of Sociology (2017); Global society, Cosmopolitism and Human Rights (with Vittorio Cotesta and Vincenzo Cicchelli, 2013); Disagio e speranze in tempi di crisi. Indagine conoscitiva sugli atteggiamenti socio-politici degli studenti di Sapienza Università di Roma (2012); and I giovani e le sfide del futuro (with Marisa Ferrari Occhionero; 2011).
