Dr Navneet Kumar is currently working as an Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Processing and Food Engineering in the Faculty of Agricultural Engineering and Technology at Anand Agricultural University, India. He received both his BTech and MTech in Agricultural Engineering with specialization in Processing and Food Engineering from GBPUA&T, India. He obtained his PhD degree in Food Engineering and Technology from SLIET, India. He has also earned qualifications in computer proficiency in the form of a PG Diploma from Kurukshetra University, India, Sun certification for Java Programming from Sun Microsystems Inc., USA, and a CCC+ examination from SPIPA, India. He has worked on the production of crude enzymes using wheat, bran and de-oiled cake as substrates; the design, development and testing of a computerized data acquisition and control system for a batch fermenter; and the development and characterization of extruded product of carrot pomace, pulse powder and rice flour during his BTech, MTech and PhD studies respectively. Navneet has worked as a research associate on various projects on the development, evaluation and adoption of equipment and gadgets for harvesting, cleaning, grading and packing of selected crops; the design, development and testing of a greenhouse for cold desert conditions; the development of raisin production technology using solar energy from grapes; and the development of solar photovoltaic power packs and matching equipment at IARI, India, and CIPHET, India. He has contributed more than 50 publications in the form of research and review articles in international and national journals, book chapters in reference books and textbooks, and articles for various training programmes. He also has delivered lectures and talks on various aspects of food processing and value addition during training programmes along with radio broadcasts. Navneet has also earned recognitions including Fellow of the Institution of Engineers, Distinguished Service Certificate from the Indian Society of Agricultural Engineers (ISAE), Best Paper Award from the Association of Food Scientists and Technologists AFST(I) in the field of food engineering, as well as several prizes during presentations at national seminars and symposiums. He is currently involved in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and research in the fields of processing and food engineering. He also guided several MTech and PhD students in the capacity of advisory committee member or as a major advisor. In recent years, he has undertaken various studies related to dehydration kinetics of custard apple pulp, osmotic drying of custard apple flakes, development of low-cost harvesting tool, sweet corn storage studies and rehydration kinetics.
