Carles Feixa holds a PhD from the University of Barcelona, Spain, and a Doctorate Honoris Causa from the University of Manizales, Colombia. He has been Professor of Social Anthropology at the University of Lleida, Spain, and is currently full Professor at the Department of Communication of the Universitat Pompeu Fabra, Spain. He has been visiting scholar at universities in Rome, Mexico, Paris, California (Berkeley), Buenos Aires, Santiago de Chile, Newcastle and Lima. He has investigated youth cultures and has conducted fieldwork in Spain and Latin America. He is also interested in topics including violence, urbanism, sport, oral memory, migration, social movements, and cybercultures. He is the author of several books, such as De jovenes, bandas y tribus (1998; 5th edition 2012); Global Youth? (with P. Nilan, 2006); 1989. Young people and social change after the fall of the Berlin wall (2012); and Youth, Space and Time (2016). Carles has been co-editor of the journal Young and is a member of the international board of Nueva Antropología; Revista Latinoamericana de Ciencias Sociales, Niñez y Juventud; Mondi Migranti; and Analise Social, among others. He has been advisor for the youth policies of the United Nations and Vice-President of the International Sociological Association Research Committee Sociology of Youth.
