Keeping Up with Technologies to Create the Cognitive City

This volume represents a selection of papers presented at the Third International Academic Conference on Places and Technologies, held at the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Belgrade, Serbia in April 2016. The conference brought together researchers, PhD students and practitioners, in order to create a platform for sharing knowledge in the fields of growth, new technologies, and the environment, as well as particular aspects of achieving the concept of cognitive city.

The book will appeal primarily to members of the academic community in the fields of urban design, planning and architecture, engineering and technical sciences, and the humanities and social sciences. It will also be of interest to professional institutions and companies, governments, and NGOs, who will directly benefit from the knowledge presented here.


Dr Eva Vaništa Lazarević is Professor at the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Belgrade, Serbia. She is an expert in urban renewal and regeneration, on which she has published two award-winning books.

Dr Milena Vukmirović is Associate Researcher at the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Belgrade, Serbia, and Assistant of the Director of Urban Planning of the City of Belgrade. Her research is focused on the quality of the everyday environment and the competitiveness of cities.

Dr Aleksandra Krstić-Furundžić is Professor at the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Belgrade, Serbia. Her fields of expertise include architectural constructions, passive and active solar systems, industrialised construction, and building refurbishment technologies.

Dr Aleksandra Đukić is Associate Professor at the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Belgrade, Serbia. Her professional activities and research are focused on urban design and planning, urban morphology and urban renewal.
