"Controversies in Medicine and Neuroscience: Through the Prism of History, Neurobiology, and Bioethics (2023) is well worth reading and studying. It should be standard on all doctor’s bookshelves and among the interested laymen."

Dance in Ireland: Steps, Stages and Stories

In Dance in Ireland: Steps, Stages and Stories, Sharon Phelan provides an in-depth view of dance in Ireland during the colonial and post-colonial eras. She presents dance as an integral part of Irish life and as a signifier of cultural change. Central themes are documented and analysed. They include cross-cultural influences, the dance master and pantomimic dance traditions, dance during the Gaelic Revival, dichotomies in dance, and the theatricalisation of Irish dance. The book is illustrated with photographs and it is an indispensable resource for academics and artists alike, as they continue to foster dance, on the page and on the stage.

Dr Sharon Phelan lectures in performing arts and cultural theory at the Institute of Technology, Tralee, County Kerry. She has also performed with Siamsa Tíre, the National Folk Theatre of Ireland, and was full-time Artistic Director of the Ionad Culturtha in Ballyvourney, County Cork. Sharon has published internationally on dance and theatre, from cultural and educational perspectives. She has also been a central figure in the establishment of dance as an independent area of study, in second level and third level education, in Ireland. Sharon lives in Tralee, County Kerry, where she continues to research, choreograph, and dance.
